A missed miscarriage is when the embryo(s) stops growing and developing but a miscarriage has not yet occurred. A Missed abortion is linked with a higher risk of miscarriage or spontaneous abortion. It is a condintion in which all or part of the membranes and pregnancy products are retained in the uterus. It is also known as delayed abortion.

The clinical manifestations and signs of a Threatening abortion include uterine bleeding, pain, fever and lower back pain. Other symptoms include anxiety, pale moist skin, hypotension, and guilt often occur afterwards. Intrauterine fetal death can lead to the clinical manifestations of dead fetus syndrome with disseminated intravascular coagulation, significantly lower plasma fibrinogen levels, and postpartum bleeding. Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, it can lead to a septic shock and death. Dilation and curettage is done along with oxytocin infusion for women in the second trimester of pregnancy to remove the placenta or the tissue after abortion.
